Sonia was originally trained as a physician in Mexico and later earned a Master’s Degree in Addictions and Rehabilitation Counseling in the United States at Saint Cloud State University in Minnesota. She is also a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. Her clinical experience spans multiple levels of care, providing her with a strong foundation to support both acute and long-standing challenges.
Sonia trained in an intensive inpatient facility for women in Minnesota, working with severe mental health conditions and substance use disorders. She later provided care at Alvarado Parkway Institute in an Intensive Outpatient Program, helping clients transition from crisis stabilization to sustainable recovery. Additionally, she has worked with individuals experiencing traumatic brain injury, chronic pain, and first responders coping with PTSD, giving her a deep understanding of the connection between trauma, the body, and emotional resilience.

Sonia is a bilingual (English/Spanish) Clinical Counselor specializing in helping individuals navigate trauma, relationship challenges, addiction, and life transitions with clarity and direction. She works with adults who feel overwhelmed, stuck in painful patterns, or disconnected from themselves and are ready for meaningful, lasting change. Her approach is both compassionate and results-oriented. She integrates evidence-based therapies, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), with deeper psychodynamic and attachment-based work. This allows her not only to manage symptoms, but to understand and transform the underlying patterns that keep clients feeling stuck.
Sonia brings a unique, holistic perspective to mental health care. She is currently advancing her training in DBT to further support clients in emotional regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. As someone with a Hispanic background, she offers culturally responsive care and a nuanced understanding of the immigrant and first-generation experience. She recognizes the complexity of balancing identities, expectations, and personal healing, and she strives to create a space where clients feel fully seen and understood.

Sonia’s philosophy is simple: healing happens when insight meets action, and when people feel safe enough to tell the truth about their lives. Therapy is not just about coping—it is about reclaiming your voice, understanding your story, and building a life that feels aligned with who you truly are. Some falls break us. Others open us. And sometimes, in the quiet after the fall, we begin to gather the pieces and discover who we were meant to become. If you’re ready, Sonia will meet you there.
